I survived Thanksgiving #1.  We always go to my maternal grandfather's house the weekend before Thanksgiving to celebrate with them.  My grandfather is in his 80s and his health is declining so every time we see him I'm afraid it will be the last time.  They had a special guest this year.  Jo (my grandfather's wife) invited her first husband's cousin Halie.  Halie is 99 years old.  She'll be 100 in March.  She can still drive, hears great, is totally lucid, and her mobility is amazing.  You wouldn't know that she's a day over 70.  And a 70 year old who is in amazing shape.  I was very impressed and hope to be in that great of shape should I live that long.

My sister-in-law was there in all her pregnant glory like I mentioned in my last post.  I tried to avoid her as much as possible.  They had to stop by the doctor before making the trip because she had some episodes of elevated blood pressure.  The doctor told her it was ok to travel, but to avoid sodium.  Of course, she bitched the whole time that he couldn't eat what she wanted (fritos of all things) and kept trying to sneak chips when no one was looking.  I actually slapped her hand when she tried it in front of me.  The rest of the time she sat in the recliner and rubbed her belly, or she walked around and moaned about how uncomfortable she was.  Yeah, I get it, you're extremely pregnant and uncomfortable, but I would trade with you if I could.  The most painful moment of the day was when I saw my mother feeling the baby move.  My grandfather's house is pretty small, but I managed to be in another room than her most of the time.

This was a two-day work week for me because of Thanksgiving.  Yesterday at 9:30 security came over the intercom and said we all needed to evacuate the building.  I work in a 19 story building.  Someone called in a bomb threat.  We got outside and they said we needed to go two blocks away.  Then they told us that they were sweeping the building and that it wouldn't be open before 1:00.  I went and hung out at the husband's office.  We live 30 minutes away from work so I didn't want to drive home, just to have to drive back.  The time got changed to 3:00 at which point I just wanted to go home, but I had a feeling my boss would have me come back in.  Sure enough at 3:00 he called and said the building was open and that he would see me there.  If he were a decent person he would have told me to go home.  But no.  He's a douche.  Which is why I'm looking for a new job.

But I'm off today, so that's good news.  We're going to meet my dad for lunch and then we're driving to Eric's parents' to spend Thanksgiving with them.  No preggos at our destination, which is always a good thing.

I'm glad you made it through the day okay. I just want to smack your sister. Does she know how much you have gone through to try to get pregnant? Because if she does, I really want to smack her for being so callused and insensitive.

Your boss sounds like a Scrooge. I hope you are able to find a new job soon.
