Advocacy Day

I decided today that I'm going to attend Resolve's Advocacy Day in Washington DC on May 5th.  The link has all the info about it.  I wanted to go last year, but just couldn't because of timing/money, etc.

I've been thinking of ways to raise money to help pay for the trip since I'll have to pay for a flight there and a hotel room, plus food, transportation, etc.

My first idea is facebook.  Next month is my 30th birthday.  In lieu of gifts I will ask people to donate to the cost of my trip.  This means I will officially be "out" on facebook.  I have posted things with special filters before about infertility, but never to everyone.  I'm cool with it though.  I even checked with Eric first to make sure he was ok with it and he said yes.  So that's number one.

My other idea was to contact the local fertility clinics and see if they would consider sponsoring me to go.  After all, Advocacy Day will benefit them too.  This one is kind of tricky though.  I would have better luck at them giving if it was tax-deductible.  If they give me money directly, I don't think it's qualified.  I've contacted someone at Resolve to see if they can help with that.  Maybe people could donate to Resolve in my name so Resolve could give them a receipt and then it would come to me?  I have no idea.

If by some miracle I got enough donations to pay for the whole trip, I would just donate the rest of the money to Resolve.

I'm so excited about this!  If anyone else is interested in going I would be open to sharing a hotel room to save some money!

Hi Brandy - I would LOVE to go to advocacy day in DC with you. I'm not sure how to swing it this year though, so instead I signed up to do advocacy day at the local offices of my representatives. I work in local politics, and know most of the staff already, so it will take some strength on my part to come out to them as past of this event. But I am ready for it.

You are right on to ask RESOLVE for help with the travel costs. many lobby organizations pay for the travel of those who will be testifying. I can't imagine that they wouldn't be able to figure out how to make something work.

BTW- the text color on your blog is really light and hard to read. You might want to play with a darker color.

good luck with the fundraising! - Foxy
