Crazy Sexy Cleanse!

I'm on day 4 of a 21 day cleanse.  My husband is doing it with me.  I've been wanting to do it for a while and finally got it all together to do it.

It's based on the plan from this book: Crazy Sexy Diet

Here's the gist of it in a nutshell:

  • Juicing!  Green juice for breakfast every
  • All vegan (no animal products of any kind, no meat, no cheese, no eggs, nada)
  • Gluten-free
  • Low glycemic-index
  • 60/40 to 80/20 ratio of alkaline/acidic foods
It sounds pretty strict, and it is.  But it's something I've wanted to do for a long time.  Like I said in my last post, my doctor wants to put me on metformin, but I have no interest in going back on that.  I think if I can stick to this diet and lose weight, I can treat my PCOS without meds.  If after that, I still need the meds then I will reconsider.

So far the cleanse hasn't been all that bad.  I feel like I turned a corner today with regards to cravings.  Yesterday I felt like I could have killed someone for a Coke Zero, but I resisted.  Someone also brought bagels and donuts to the office.  I turned those down to, although I think a small part of my soul died when I did that.

I'm feeling good about it though.  It's getting easier every day.  I had an apple as a snack today and was actually looking forward to it.  I couldn't even finish all of what I brought with me for lunch.

Eric has been able to get off of his acid reflux meds (prescription that he takes every day).

The plan is to do this for 21 days.  After that, I plan on continuing it.  Not sure if Eric will or not, but if I'm cooking dinner and he doesn't want to make himself anything else he'll at least be eating vegan for that meal.

So that's the low-down on that.

I've always wanted to try a cleanse! This sounds very doable to me, and I'm excited to hear how it goes! I love the sound of green juice in the morning, too. I was vegan for 5 years, and it really does just become second nature. Feels less like restriction, you know? I cook so much more now than I did then, and I think we relied a little too much on processed things (like meat analogs--tofu dogs, fake chicken strips, etc), which, despite being vegan, can be filled with way too much sodium and the like. I've always wanted to try a raw diet, too.

I watched this great documentary on Netflix streaming a couple of weeks ago where folks controlled Diabetes and Hypertention and such entirely through diet. It was totally inspiring. (Wish I could remember the name of it off the top of my head!)

Anyway, good luck to you! This is awesome!

Wow, good for you! I did a similar cleanse last year, but with lean protein (animal) added in. I lost 7 lbs in 28 days (I'm 25 lbs over-weight, no PCOS). I did feel good eliminating sodas, coffee, processed food. I loved eating apples with nut butter as a snack. Berry smoothies (with pea protein) for breakfast really helped me get through the cleanse. I still have them each morning. Love them!

What are you doing for protein?
