Work stuff

I broke the news to my boss about the test.  He wasn't thrilled about it, but made sure to tell me he wasn't upset with me.  He then said he wanted me to study extra hard and take the test again in five or six weeks.  So now I think I have to tell him about the IVF.  I'm going to continue to work in SAS and try to transition my reports to using SAS, but I'm not going to bust my ass like I did the past couple of months to take the test again in only six weeks.  You're only allowed to take it three times a year.  If I don't take it in six weeks he's going to want to know why.

I won't get fired if I tell him about the IVF.  It just might be awkward for a while.  Hell, pretty much everyone in the office knows, but him.  He doesn't have any kids.  I had a co-worker for about ten months who had a small daughther and my boss treated her differently than the rest of us.  He would get irritated when she couldn't stay late because she had to pick her daughter up, or when she came in late because of a dr. appointment.  He's really not in a position to do that to me though.  I've been here almost three years.  The two other analysts are brand new and still learning all of the systems we use.  He would be screwed if I left and has told me that on numerous occasions.

So I think I'm going to tell him this afternoon.  I know as soon as I walk in his office and shut the door he's going to freak out and think that I'm telling him I got a new job (oh how I wish I could do that).  So I'll start off with telling him that I'm not leaving.  Hopefully that will calm him down enough so that when I tell him about doing the IVF and needing time off it won't be such a blow for him.  Here's to hoping.

Good luck with telling your boss! I think he will understand. I am a boss and I would understand, you can tell him to call me if he has any problems! :)
