She's back!

Warning: totally off topic post.  Nothing much going on in the way of infertility/state of not being knocked up, but I don't want this blog to die, so I'll be posting some random stuff probably.

When I say she's back, I mean my aunt.  She and I have very different political views.  I'm talking total opposite ends of the spectrum.  For the record, I'm a liberal.  She's one of the people that still believes that Obama isn't a U.S. citizen.  Really, I don't care what she believes.  But she's an email forwarder.  Yes, one of those.  Around the election I got emails from her every. single. day. about how Obama and the Democrats were going to make our children do drugs and would ruin the nation.  I'm only slightly kidding.

I tend to try not to talk politics with my family.  I'm the black sheep of the family, being a liberal democrat in Alabama.  I don't start political conversations.  But when my aunt kept sending me emails full of blatantly false information I had to respond in some way.  Believe what you believe, but at least base it on facts!  Is that too much to ask?  At first I would just delete her emails.  But then, I would send her the snopes link showing that she was spreading lies.  Then she started getting mad at me.  So we got into a stupid email war.  Finally she ended it by saying she was taking me off her email distribution list (thank god!).  And that was the last I heard from her.

Until this morning.  She forwarded me an email talking about the Obama tax increases and she asked me if I still like him NOW.  I skimmed the email.  I didn't bother to fact-check it, because honestly, I don't care.  To me, taxes are my responsibility as a citizen.  I've lived in places with much higher taxes than we have here.  I think tax cuts for the wealthy are ridiculous.  But anyway, I digress.  I simply responded to her and said that I in fact DO still like Obama.  And if I were to dislike him for anything it would be because he doesn't support gay marriage, not because of higher taxes.  She hasn't responded.  I don't know if she will.  I really don't care.  I just want off of her distribution list again.  Is that too much to ask?

No, it's not too much to ask. With our family, we've agreed not to talk about Religion, Politics or Se.x. Just easier that way.

Funny how she wants you to hear her point of view, but not want to hear yours.

Jem (also a liberal)

P.S. So glad you are feeling better mentally.

okay, that was actually a funny post, and I really needed a smile today :) I often wonder how I can have such fundamentally different views than so many other people. On one level there are the lies and misconceptions that lead people to feel certain ways, but on other things we just fundamentally disagree. ML's family is very conservative, and his mom thinks that we are going to hell. My family is much more liberal, but still very fiscally conservative. Politics sure are complicated!
