I somehow got on a subscription list for an infertility newsletter email program from Schering-Plough. No idea how. It's likely that I signed up for it at some point. The other day I got this email from them: pregnancy after fertility therapy. The subject was written all in lower-case letters like that. The first time I got it, I deleted it. I didn't really want to read it seeing as I wasn't pregnant. I got it a second time. Again, I deleted it. Just today, I received it for a third time. I finally opened it.
The body of the email started thusly:
A positive pregnancy test is a major accomplishment...
What the fuck? I've never seen a positive pregnancy test in my life, save for right after my trigger shot and I was testing to see if it was still in my system.
In this issue we'll give you more information to help you as you make the transition from infertility to pregnancy.
Hmmm, that would be nice WERE I ACTUALLY PREGNANT!
When your fertility treatments come to an end, be sure to continue scheduling regular visits with your OB/Gyn. OB/Gyns are trained in women's reproductive health including pregnancy and delivery, general health, breast and pelvic exams, and contraception.
Seriously?!?!?!?!? I need to go to my OB/Gyn and inquire about CONTRACEPTION??? Well why the fuck did we just throw $25,000 away trying to get pregnant? Wouldn't want an "oops" to happen would we?
Someone clearly did not think this email program through. Perhaps they didn't realize that over 50% of IF treatments don't result in a pregnancy/baby.
I did notice at the bottom of the email in tiny letters was a link to an article about childfree living. But really, most people in my situation probably have deleted the email in disgust before they're able to get to the bottom and see that.
I'm thinking of sending a letter to complain. Way to pour salt in the wound Schering-Plough!!!
